This Mayan city established c. 300BC showcases an outstanding archeological piece an almost perfectly preserved 55 ft long painted stucco frieze composed of engravings of alternating jaguars, serpents and a saurian. The piece has four scenes which depict the order of the universe, which itself is made of opposing and complementary elements of the underworlds. Each frame represents an animal with the head turned backwards. The figureheads and the jaguars express the earth's richness the amphibians represent the transition between the two worlds. This place is truly off the beaten path, but not difficult to reach.
